Swatch Sistem51 Update, Something for Everyone

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

When Swatch debuted the Sistem51 automatic, I was excited about the prospect of a very affordable Swiss made automatic, but I was not all that excited by the design choices. The original four designs definitely showed the Swatch DNA, but they were not designs I would wear, other than as a novelty. With the Swatch Sistem51 update released earlier this year, there are 5 new watches in the family, really expanding the appeal.

Ventus Caspian Watches, Taking off from Kickstarter

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

Origin stories for crowd funded watches are long past redundant at this point, especially if you search out for these projects. What I really care about is how the watch looks, and is it a good enough value to jump in and take a chance. With the Ventus Caspian Watches currently funding through April 25, the watch looks great and the value seems to be there.

Patrick Kansa By Patrick Kansa

Welcome to our weekly feature, Watching the Web, where Patrick and I get to point you toward some watch related articles we found across the WWW, as well as highlight some of the more popular articles over the last week or so from our own site. One of the newer relationships we’ve developed is with Projects Watches. Along with the obvious affordability the brand offers, they have a unique sense of design, often pushed along by bringing in designers who are not traditional watch designers, resulting in some unique ideas. The latest of these is the Projects Watches “On the Right Track”.

Mercer Watch Company Brigadier, Nicely Done Mercer

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

Sometimes we look for the next cool watch and overlook a well made, but not overly exciting watch. I am not going to say I overlooked the Brigadier, but it did take me a little while to get to writing about it. And it is a watch worth writing about on its own, since the Mercer Watch Company Brigadier on Kickstarter is a pretty three hander that looks like it is well designed and made, even if it is not super exciting.

Swatch Irony XLite

Patrick Kansa By Patrick Kansa

When it comes to the Swatch brand, most of our mind share has been focused on their quite clever Sistem51. They do, of course, have quite a few other watches on offer. One of the more popular collections has been the Swatch Irony, and they just introduced a new extension of that line – the Swatch Irony XLite.

Watch Video Rewind for February 15, 2015

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

Welcome back to our regular feature, the Watch Video Rewind. In this series, we bring to light videos we feel are interesting and worth sharing out with our readers. Today, in honor of Valentines Day being yesterday, I am going to highlight a few videos that get into one of the reasons for my love of watches, namely beautifully crafted intricate machines, ‘watch porn’ if you will. Not that I can afford any of these timepieces.
