Ok, dear reader – it’s time for me to dive back into the world of GMT watch reviews. As you…
I think that it is safe to assume that, if you are reading articles here on WWR, you are in to watches. Yes, we all have our own favorite styles, complications, and brands, but it all falls under the umbrella of watches. Are you as in to watch straps are you are the watches themselves? I have come to realize that I am (Hi, my name is Patrick and I’m a burgeoning watch strap collector).
Sometimes, it certainly can feel like you’re trying to drink from a firehose when it comes to keeping up with all the indie watch brands on the market these days. Even if you limit yourself to a single type of watch (for instance, divers) and shy away from those mushrooming up on Kickstarter, you are still left with an embarrassment of riches. This also means that, for us here at WWR, we can sometimes overlook a particular brand or watch. Vancouver-based Halios is one of those brands. For whatever reason, they were in my periphery, but I never focused in on them. That is, until I caught sight of the white-dialed Halios Tropik.
For many of us (myself included), there is no denying the appeal of a cleanly designed diver. Now, you might argue that the Limes Endurance II is not truly a dive watch, as it only carries a 100m WR rating, and I would concede that point. It most certainly fits into the category as a tool watch, and the timing bezel gives it those hints of a diver
Earlier this year I was attending an alumni event and the subject matter turned to watches (how I turned it there I don’t recall). One of the group asked what I would recommend for her to get her boyfriend as a gift. My first question was how much money she wanted to spend. When she said roughly $1,000, I immediately recommended a Weiss. Her question also got me thinking about how I could organize the 2015 holiday gift guide. So for this iteration, I will recommend my favorite watch (or watch related gift) in each of several price ranges. Chances are, if I like it, especially if it under about $1,500, we have covered it in the past, since that is the kind of people we are; but there may be watches here (especially at the high end) that have not graced our pages.
It really is amazing the number of options we have these days when it comes to looking for straps to swap in on your favorite watches. While our thoughts most often turn to textile and nylon straps for the summer, leather is still a viable option. Of course, you may not want it to be a heavier strap (link to 74 watchstraps), given the warmer weather. Striking a nice balance between thinness and toughness, we have a few options in for review from Artisan Strap Co.
Today, we have some great summertime strap options for you from Suigeneric and Crown & Buckle.
