Lew & Huey have been somewhat of a crowd source darling company, launching their watches to date through campaigns on Kickstarter. Now, with a mature fan base, several models on the market, and good name recognition for a new, independent brand, the Lew & Huey Phantom is going on sale, with pre-orders (opens noon Eastern on 4/20, link is not active until then) direct from Lew & Huey.
Today, we have a writeup of a watch that I have patiently bided my time to have come in. Back in November of 2013, I first wrote about the Egard Passages over on aBlogtoWatch. As I had already established a relationship with the brand, I figured we would be seeing one in fairly quickly after that. Well, circumstances are what they are, and its a year and a half later. So, was it worth the wait to spend some time with the official watch of William Shatner, the Egard Passages?
AVI-8 was nice enough to offer a AVI-8 Hawker Harrier II watch for a hands on review, and I was expecting to see it with the black dial, but instead I opened the watch and saw the green dial. For me, this is the perfect color for the watch, so it is a happy accident. That is not to say it does not look good in black, but the green suits is very well.
Back in January, I previewed Christopher Ward’s update to their Trident line of watches. For the automatics, the update included newer, longer lasting lume and a ceramic bezel, as well as an increased depth rating. At the time, I wanted to see if I could get a watch for a hands on review. Well, the brand obliged and I opened the box of a Christopher Ward C60 Trident GMT with a ceramic bezel in green just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, luck of the Irish indeed.
We are no stranger to Mr Jones on these pages, as a their designs have pop up from time to time. As of late, they seem to have been getting more into collaborations with other brands. One of their latest, with custom bike shop Untitled Motorcycles, really sort of grabbed my attention. Read on to see what the Mr Jones motochrono is all about.
As should be no surprise to anyone reading this site, BaselWorld is well underway, with all manner of announcements being made about new and interesting watches. This year, Tissot actually had five different collections that were launched or extended. While items like the T-Touch and MotoGP watches get most of the attention, I was intrigued by a different set of watches – the Tissot Vintage.
Chronographs are a funny thing, for me. On one hand, I do understand and appreciate the overall look of a chronograph, be it a bi- or tri-compax layout. For all practical purposes, however, I simply do not have a use the complication offers. As such, I generally tend to steer away from chronographs, especially as they are generally housed in larger cases. That all said, I may have found an exception to my rule with a watch being introduced at Basel later this month – the Junghans Meister Chronoscope.
Back in December, we brought you word of the latest offering from Tempest, the Tempest Carbon. In that writeup, I lamented the fact that our friends over at aBlogtoWatch were able to spend some time with the prototype. Well, supporting the saying that “good things come to those who wait”, we actually got to spend some time with the prototype ourselves. So, what is it like having the Tempest Carbon on the wrist
That’s right – time to complain about losing an hour of sleep! Or, just move your watches (yes, all of them) forward an hour when you go to sleep tonight so you don’t show up late tomorrow. In other words, we spring ahead, even with snow still on the ground.
February is now in the books, and with the second month of the year came a number of watch projects on crowd funded sites. Myself, I tend to favor projects listed on Kickstarter, and have purchased a number of them, but there are alternative sites, most notably Indiegogo. In addition to the projects below, I have longer reviews of the Nevo Watch, which is technically over but still collecting pledges in “bonus time;” the Trintec Zulu-07, running through March 7; the Melbourne Watch Company Avalon, running through March 16; and the Mercer Watch Company Brigadier, funding on March 29. I am also working on a write up of a new crowd funded design from Techne with is currently on Rockethub. I have a Techne, and the company has been on our pages several times, so I have no issue in recommending this project if you are looking for a military cockpit style quartz watch,
