If you’re like us, you’re familiar with the Oris Aquis Date, and like the approach that this diver has taken. We’ve written about it before (here’s one review), and it had some refinements introduced earlier this year at Watches & Wonders. Now, just in time for warmer weather, they’ve introduced the Oris Aquis Date “Taste of Summer”.
What’s unchanged
Across the 41.5mm version of the Oris Aquis Date, you’ll see the same things – a stainless steel case with a tapered three-link bracelet. On top of that case you have a uni-directional bezel with a ceramic insert, and on the side, a screw-down crown. Around back you have an exhibition case back, which does not prevent the case from maintaining a 300m WR rating. And, as you’d expect from a diver, there’s plenty of lume to be had.
What’s new
For this “Taste of Summer” release, the change is all on the dial and the bezel. Here, they’ve drawn inspiration from the delicious watermelon, offering up a dial either in green or red. The bezel, then, while mainly in white, has color-matched (to the dial) numerals and indices.
Seen as a pairing, you definitely see the watermelon influence. However, we think they could have done even bolder (or offer it up as a variant). Why not take that red dial version, and then put the green bezel on it? Or even reverse the bezel colors, so the ceramic is green and the numerals is in white? Then you’d really get that influence. Or perhaps you run the risk of putting it into a December theme. We’ll leave that for the designers to sort out.
Wrapping things up
These Taste of Summer models were introduced at the end of last month, so just in time for the summer kick-off. Fortunately, there is no premium for these new colors, with the pricetag of $2,700. Both colors are available, at local retailers and from Oris. Check it out over at oris.ch
