Doc Vail over at NTH, Canadian retailer A Time to Watch, and V.B. Perseo of Valentino Baielli Fine Watches, are helping out with a GoFundMe campaign to help defray legal costs for a friend and watch fan who is going through a costly adoption process.
Jason Dill (who has written for us before) has taken foster children into his home, starting about five years ago. Three years ago, they were brought a newborn to foster. Along with their two other daughters, this was a big undertaking, but ultimately was the best thing for them and the little girl.
The difficulty is, adoptions cost quite a lot of money. Legal fees are crushing, especially when proceedings drag on, and all you’re trying to do is provide a good, loving home to raise children in. Jason’s sister-in-law started a GoFundMe campaign to try and help defray the costs. That’s when Doc stepped in.
Doc Vail, who we’ve written about many times in these pages, is a sometimes-gruff, curmudgeon of a watch maker, who makes some timepieces we’ve really liked. He’s also a big-hearted human. He posted on facebook, saying
To all my friends – NTH is donating 4 watches to be raffled off to help the Dill family with legal costs arising from the adoption of a little girl they’ve been fostering since birth, their daughter Ellie.
Every donation of $20 to their GoFundMe will buy a chance to win one of two Zwaardvis (both no-date), a Phantom Khaki (no-date, DLC case), or a Phantom B (no-date, DLC case). Every $20 donated is another chance to win. Here’s a link to the GoFundMe. Please be sure to include your name with your donation. https://www.gofundme.com/support-ellie039s-journey-with-the-dill-family
Now, that alone is fantastic. But that’s not where it stopped. Emilio Mundula of Canada’s ATimetoWatch.com stepped up with a similar contribution – donate $50 and be entered to win a Pontvs Hydra watch.
This is great, you’re thinking – help a good person, help a family become a family under the law, help a little girl, and get a watch. But that’s not where it ended:
Val Perseo, owner of Valentino Baielli Fine Watches vbwatches.com, has adopted children before, and knows just how expensive it is. He’s contributing a Meccaniche Venzeiane Redentore to be raffled off to people who donate $20 or more.
Some people don’t want to talk about micro brands. Some people only think the best watches are big name brands. Seeing the watch world come together to help one of our friends is really uplifting: good watches, and good people. Be sure to use your name when you donate, and good luck. Even if you don’t win a watch, you’ve already won by helping. https://www.gofundme.com/support-ellie039s-journey-with-the-dill-family
