While I certainly marvel at the tiny-purpose built machines that watch movements are, I tend to keep my viewing of them from the caseback side of things. I don’t care for cutouts on the dial normally, and a full “see through” design I just don’t get. However, the recently-announced Mido Multifort Mechanical LE could be one to change my mind.

Mido Multifort Mechanical LE: what it is

At first glance, you might think that the Mido Multifort Mechanical LE is a watch with a “dial free” design. I know I did, at first glance at the photos. But then I realized that the handset was entirely too easy to see against the movement components. And that movement looked curiously flat…

What the clever crew at Mido have done is reproduced where the components are in the movement, and put that as line art on the dial itself. Not only that; the ink that they laid down is actually SuperLuminova, so you should get quite the interesting light show in the dark.

The movement

The Mido Multifort Mechanical LE relies on the ETA 6498-1, which is a manually-wound movement. Of course you can see it on the front of the watch, and you can view the actual movement through the caseback as well. It’s decorated, adjusted in three-positions, and will get you up to a 46-hour power reserve.
