Hey, so remember back when we told you about Mido’s new diver, the Mido Ocean Star Diver 600? Well, because the watch world is (seemingly) chock-a-block full of anniversary dates, we’ve hit a special one for the Ocean Star line. It’s the 75-year mark, and to commemorate it, they’ve found a new way to test the water-fastness of the watch. Mido is partnering up with the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series.
Frankly, this sort of cliff diving – from heights of 27m (88’ 7”) and approaching speeds of 85km/h (52.82 MPH) is going to be a super sure test of the watch surviving the forces and not having water enter the case. Then again the divers probably won’t wear the watch as they dive (and if not, page the Marketing team, because this sounds like a solid stunt).
This 11th season of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series actually kicks off tomorrow – April 13th – in El Nido, Palawan, which is in the Philippines. After that, it goes on to:
- 12 May: Dublin, Ireland
- 2 June: Polignano a Mare, Italy
- 22 June: São Miguel, Azores, Portugal
- 14 July: Beirut, Lebanon
- 24 August: Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina
- 14 September: Bilbao, Spain
As things kick off, Mido is partnering with two of the divers, Jonathan Paredes from Mexico and Alessandro De Rose from Italy. Undoubtedly, if you take in the events, you’ll see them at some point sporting the Mido Ocean Star Diver 600. We also hope to be doing the same.
