In yesterday’s post, I started my “long term” update on Magrette’s Regattare 2011 watch. Today, we’ll wrap up my experience, and give you a final recommendation on the piece.
Aside from the issue I had with the buckle, the watch has performed well. I’ve only had to reset the time once or twice, and the lume on the dial and hands is great. I find it very readable in the dark after being in a lit room, and it lasts through to the next morning enough that you can still read the time. Sure, it’s not lighting up the room at that point, but it’s still working to its intended design.
I do have two items on the watch that I’d adjust if I could. First off, we have the date display. If it it were black (rather than white) it would blend into the dial a bit better, and if it were a touch larger, readability would be much improved. Second is the alignment on the crowns. In both the side-to-side and top-to-bottom (as you look at the side of the case) they’re not quite mirror images of each other. Minor quibbles, for sure, but I felt they were worth pointing out.
In the end, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this watch. It has solid specs, and wears very comfortably. On the “looks” front. the alternating polished / brushed finishes are a nice touch. On top of it all, as my wife pointed out, this doesn’t really look like the “regular” diver watch – I think the internal bezel is the reason for it. Which isn’t to say it can’t take the water – at 500m WR, it should hold up to just about anything. Ultimately, I think this is a great watch, and am looking forward to having it in my collection for the years to come.
