Ever since I first went hands on with a Magrette watch (way back in 2011), I’ve been a fan of what the company has been making. Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to review a number of their releases, and all of them have felt robust for my day-to-day. If you really want to be sure your watch can handle it, then this latest pre-order might be for you. Time to get familiar with the Magrette Moana Pacific Professional Titanium Destro.

Moana Pacific Professional Titanium Destro: what’s new

Across the wider Magrette catalog, the elements here are not new for the brand. Combining them all in the MPP, though, that’s new. What that means is that the 44mm cushion case is done up in Grade 5 Titanium, and nets out to a 500m WR rating (which also means a helium escape valve). The crown is on the left (hence the “Destro”), meaning it won’t be digging into your wrist when worn on the left hand.

Finally, you’ve got fixed lugs on the case. Why might you want that? With spring bars, that can be a weak point, especially if the watch gets caught on something. Spring bars can break under tension, which means you can lose your watch that way. With fixed lugs (made of titanium, no less), it would have to be some other sort of strap failure that sends your watch down into the depths.

The movement

While we’re used to seeing Magrette use a number of different affordable movements (most commonly from Miyota as we saw here), which tends to exclude Swiss movements. Why is that? The Swiss movements have – in the past – not been available to independent brands at prices that make sense. That’s changed some over the past few years, and that’s why we’re seeing the Sellita SW200 show up in Magrette’s interpretation of the ultimate dive watch.

Then, when delivery gets closer, you’ll pay the balance plus $35 for international shipping. The only choice you’ll have to make is your dial color – carbon, black, or white.
