You can always use a good carabiner – or S-biner (which is an S-shaped carabiner with two gates) to hook stuff on. Whether it’s your keys to your belt look, or a coffee cup (or other gear) onto your bag, there’s always a good use. But one that brings glow to the party? That’s a new one on me, and that’s exactly what we have with the Luminescent Duralumin Carabiner.
Luminescent Duralumin Carabiner: what it is
The name of the device – Luminescent Duralumin Carabiner – and what we wrote in the intro sort of gives it all away. You’ve got two spring-loaded gates that allow you to clip things on to the S-biner, as well as on to another thing (be it a bag, strap, or yourself). What makes this different is how it’s constructed.
The Luminescent Duralumin Carabiner makes use of a sandwich of duralumin (which is an alloy of aluminum), with the center layer of luminescent polycarbonate. This construction gives the device the ability to handle up to 10kg (approximately 22 lbs), while giving a nice boost of glow in the dark.
Why we like it
Everyone has some basic, inexpensive, carabiners around the house. For the longest time, I had one on my backpack at all times, whether I need to clip a water bottle on, or even my headphones case. Whether it’s daily use or for camping, the Luminescent Duralumin Carabiner adds a good bit of style to a functional piece of gear. With the glow, it makes it easy to, say, find your water bottle in the dark.
With how it’s constructed, that polycarbonate center – which is going to be tough as it is – is even more protected, which means this should last for a good long time. In short, this is a carabiner that you’re going to be putting to use for years to come.
Wrapping things up
The Luminescent Duralumin Carabiner is funding now, with the campaign closing out on May 2, 2025. Unsurprisingly, it’s well over it’s funding target (I myself have backed the campaign), with delivery anticipated for January 2026. They’ve got a number of very interesting add-ons as well, which are their own form of temptation. Check out the campaign – and back it yourself – directly at kickstarter.com
