Ask and ye shall receive. I enjoyed the C1 Grand Malvern Power Reserve very much, but given the huge 5-day power reserve of the in-house SH21 automatic movement, I wondered if the power reserve indicator should be replaced with a more useful complication, like a date or small second dial. Someone at Christopher Ward agreed.

The new C1 Grand Malvern watches include versions with date at 3:00 ($1,705 – $1,740), a small second dial at 6:00 ($1,540 – $1,575), or a moonphase and date ($1,595 – $1,630). That moonphase uses Chrisptoher Ward’s JJ03 moonphase module on top of an ETA 2836, the other two use the SH21.

C1 Grand Malvern Small Second

The small second is my favorite of the new bunch, with ghostly grey printed indices and bright blue hands. It uses a manually wound version of the SH21, which saves 1.15mm over the automatic found in the Power Reserve and the Date models. The date version looks just like its Power Reserve brother, but with the addition of the beveled date window we’ve seen across the new Malvern line. The moonphase builds on the date-only version, adding a silver stamped moon disc under the applied 12 marker.

C1 Grand Malvern 5 Day Automatic

The beautiful C1 case and the stunning SH21 movement we first saw in the C1 Grand Malvern Power Reserve make a great platform for these pieces; check out our review of the Power Reserve for a closer look under the hood. christopherward.com
