We here at WWR are big fans of tritium in watches, and Ball has been doing it that up on their dials for ages. Within their lineup, I’ve got specific things that I like (and like less), but anytime there’s a cyclops showing up on the crystal, I like to take a closer look. As luck would have it, two of the recently-released Ball Roadmaster Archangel models have that precise feature.
Let’s start with (at least to me) is the least interesting of the three models – the Ball Roadmaster Archangel Bronze. While we’re used to seeing steel in their watches, here we’ve got a 42mm case made of bronze, though you still have all of the protections we’ve come to expect from Ball – anti-magnetism, shock resistance, and water resistance (full specs are down below). This, of course, keeps the COSC movement safe and sound, and keeps the three-hander and day-date display running on time. Add in the diving bezel, and you’ve got yourself a tidy all-arounder. The Ball Roadmaster Archangel Bronze will retail for $2,599, but can be pre-ordered now for $2,199.
Where my attention goes, however, are to the two Ball Roadmaster M Archangel models – one in steel, and one in bronze. On one hand, these two are very similar to the first watch we talked about (triple protection, COSC movement, similar dial, tritium), but with a big change you can see. Gone are the day-date windows, and instead you’ve got a single date window with a bubbly cyclops over the top of it. This does mean that there’s a slightly different movement inside (again, full specs are below). The steel version also offers an interesting color combo you don’t commonly see – a green dial with a green-red diving bezel. The steel version can be pre-ordered for $2,049 (retail is $2,399), while the bronze version goes for $2,699 on pre-order (retail is $3,199).
All three models are available to order now, and it’s worth noting that each model is limited to 1,000 pieces each. This pre-order period will go until September 20, 2020, after which it goes for full retail. You can check out all the details – and get your order in – directly at ballwatch.ch
