Over the years, I’ve been able to review a number of SevenFriday watches. They’ve settled in on their format, with a rounded-off square case, hands set onto circles that spin around, and a load of color choices. With the SevenFriday T1/09 Beach Club, they’re going into something that’s a bit more of an artistic approach.

At first glance, you might think the dial of the SevenFriday T1/09 Beach Club is another “Great Wave” interpretation. While that might have been an inspiration at some point, this dial is very much it’s own creation. You’ve got some sea critters swimming around, some colorful seaweeds, and then the beach, umbrella, and 7F sun off in the background. While there are a number of colors used, they all feel balanced, and work well together.

Frankly, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the dial of the SevenFriday T1/09 Beach Club. It’s not the sort of art I would normally consider for myself on a watch, but here it it’s just a really playful approach. I am a little surprised that they didn’t take the chance to include more lume on the dial (particularly with the sun and the waves), but that’s my own preference.

On the wrist, the SevenFriday T1/09 Beach Club is going to wear much like any other SevenFriday, presuming you’ve had the chance to handle one. While the 45mm case is not what anyone would call small, it fit me quite comfortably. That larger case also allows you to better see the details of the art, as well as the two-tone that they’ve done around the chapter ring.

Along with the artwork on the dial, I enjoyed the silicone strap they included. A stock strap in this material, that’s not going to be anything to write home about. Here, SevenFriday mixed things up a bit and put a stitched detail into the strap. Sure, it’s not actually holding anything together, but it adds another detail – both visual and textural – to the strap, and makes it a bit more interesting.

So, for me, the SevenFriday T1/09 Beach Club was a great way to welcome the approaching summer. If you want to put one on your wrist for the summer (just be mindful of the 30m WR rating), you can do so for $1,100 directly from sevenfriday.com
