Though we haven’t written about them recently, we at WWR are definitely fans of what Glashütte Original produce. They have a number of unique designs, and one of my favorite features that crosses many of them is the Panorama Date, which is easy on the eyes (in multiple ways). Recently, they dropped two new colors of the Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date.

Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date: the colors

You can tell right away with the names of the dial colors that they meant these to be very summery watches. Those names? Watermelon and Swimming Pool. Both work well with the silver and black accents the design of the watch has, as well as whether it’s on the rubber strap or steel bracelet.

The functionality

While the PR of the Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date release is all about the look, that doesn’t mean that GO has overlooked what a watch needs to do. Of course, it has that stunning date display, and all manner of other indications.

For the subdial at 9 o’clock, you’ve got the running seconds, as well as a power-reserve indicator hiding as well (up to 70 hours, that). The other subdial is your 30-minute chronograph counter. Set in-between those, that’s your 12-hour accumulator for the chronograph. Then, of course, you’ve got the main time (hours and minutes), as well as the chronograph seconds going off of the central spindle.

The movement

To make all of that work, the Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date needs a movement all of it’s own. This would be the Calibre 37-02, which along with all of it’s fine finishes, has a silicon balance spring and 14-carat gold adjustment screws on the balance wheel. You’ve also got some shock resistance built in, and the whole kit runs at 4 Hz (28,800 A/h), to wind up at that 70-hour power reserve.

Wrapping things up

As you can see, there are a lot of really superb things going on with the
Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date. In other words, if you’re looking for a luxury chronograph that isn’t what all your buddies have on their wrist, this is a most excellent path to go.

While the dial colors do evoke summer vibes, we think that both hues will be just at home in the other seasons as they are in the summer. If you’d like to put one of these limited-edition models on your wrist (they’re only making 100 of each), you’re looking at $14,800 on the strap or $16,000 on the bracelet.
