Diving into the Feynman Cove

New watches showing up on Kickstarter are almost a dime a dozen. Thankfully we?ve not hit that sort of rock bottom pricing approach, but sometimes it feels like we could with all of the parts-catalog stuff showing up out there. Then you?ve got something like the Feynman Cove showing up, and you realize that yes, interesting designs are out there to be had.

Ostensibly, the Feynman Cove points directly to the super compressor dive watches of the 50?s, and that is immediately evident by the dual-crown configuration. And, with a 200m WR rating, you could actually take this watch under water without any concerns. For that, of course, you?ve got the outer minute track in larger print (and rotatable with the upper crown) to track your dive, and then hours printed around the central circle.

The Feynman Cove also brings a good dose of lume to this dive party. The minute bezel (and the hours track, actually) along with the handset have SuperLuminova giving off the photons, but the brand didn?t stop there. They?ve also got a literal wavy pattern in that central portion, which jazzes things up a bit. Sure, it isn?t totally necessary, but it doesn?t look like it should impact the legibility. And for us land-lubbers, well, it?s just a fun lightshow on your wrist.

When you?re talking dive watches, you can (quite reasonably) be concerned about bulk and weight on your wrist. Here, the Feynman Cove comes in at a very reasonable 40mm and 12.8mm thick. That?s in stainless steel, and you?ve got an automatic movement (the top-grade ETA 2895-2) so you?re probably around 130g with the included rubber strap (just guessing, as no spec on weight is called out). So, I think reasonable for a diver; it?s those dimensions that many a desk-diver will appreciate.

In fact, it looks like a lot of people are digging this second outing from Feynman. With the project ending on March 10th, the funding levels are sitting at 175% of their goal – so this should be a watch that we see surfacing. There are some early bird slots still available at $670 with delivery anticipated for September of this year.
