There are a number of watch brands that are focusing on more Earth-friendly materials in their watches. The great thing about a metal case is that it could be fully recycled. With the Cedric Bellon CB01 TI, we have a watch that is very focused on reducing waste headed to the landfill.
Cedric Bellon CB01 TI: the sustainable details
In that intro, we sort of gave away the main sustainable thing about the Cedric Bellon CB01 TI. The grade 5 titanium used for the case, this isn’t it’s first rodeo. It was used in something else previously, and then (we assume) melted down to be used for this purpose now. Even the movement inside – a Dubois Dépraz DD14060 – has had an intended use that they never saw (so, sort of like new old stock). Presumably this has had a full going-through, so it should be ready to go.
The watch
In terms of functionality, the Cedric Bellon CB01 TI is your classic tool-watch sensibility. You’ve got the main time and small seconds (uniquely up at 12 o’clock), and that’s it for complications. That said, you can track a second timezone if you like with the 12-hour bi-directional bezel that’s set around the sapphire crystal.
Coming in at 40mm, the watch should wear quite well on the wrist. We rather like the matte finish on the case and bezel (courtesy of sandblasting), especially as it plays with the bold PVD colors applied to the titanium dial blank. All said, this is a watch that’s meant to go to work, and the finishing and style support that mission.
Wrapping things up
The Cedric Bellon CB01 TI is the latest version of the CB01, done up in that recycled titanium. Geneva Watch Days are coming up, and there are going to be all manner of releases being announced. Us, we’re quite happy they decided to release this prior to the show, so it was not lost in the noise.
There was a limited-edition version of 10 pieces with a purple dial, but those have sold out. You do still have choice, with dial colors of blue, green, black, or orange (and note that the small seconds hand matches the dial color). If you want one, they’re going for CHF 2,290 (incl.
