TokyoFlash Japan Wood Cased Watches – New Radioactive and Vortex Models

If you have been reading our site for a while, you should be familiar with the TokyoFlash brand. They make playful digital watches that are sometimes a little… obscure… in how they are read. Straightforward or not, the brand like to play around with how time is represented on the dial. Both Patrick and I have had the chance to check out various models in hand, and I can attest that the build quality of the watches is solid, at least on an initial review. Now, the brand is announcing two new variations, both TokyoFlash Japan wood cased watches, the Radioactive and the Vortex.

When a new, or at least fairly novel, watch product shows up in the market (and by market these days, it is increasingly on crowd funded sites), I like to take a look at it. We are being more selective in what we cover in the crowd funded market, but the Evarii Modular Watch, currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, is worth a look (actually a second look, since Patrick gave a sneak peek in February); it is also a sister brand to one we have covered a bit in the past, Egard. Evarii sent me components to mix and match two different watches, so I had a chance to play around with the concept.

It is the start of a new month, which means it is time for the September 2015 giveaway, a Mr Jones Watches Sun and Moon Miyamoto. I did a quick review of the limited edition, and then the brand sent me the version that is in the permanent collection for a hands on review. If you are a fan of the various Mario Brothers video games, or just like whimsical watches, this would be a watch for you.

A while back I took a look at the Mr Jones Watches Sun and Moon Miyamoto, which was a limited edition watch to honor the creator of the Super Mario games. At that point, we had covered more than a few Mr Jones Watches, but neither Patrick nor myself had been able to check out one in person. Well, a few emails later, a Mr Jones Watches Sun and Moon Miyamoto, now part of the regular collection, was on its way for me to check out. The bottom line: it is fun, well finished, and colorful.

When it comes to MeisterSinger, most people immediately think of their single-hand watches. While that particular style is not to my own preferences, I have become a fan of their models that also incorporate a jump hour complication. This of course keeps the single hand aesthetic while still giving you accurate time telling. While that is certainly what I would opt for, their latest model – the MeisterSinger Benjamin Franklin – offers up something rather more intriguing.

Thirsty Watch Co. Vintage Soda, Because Hipsters Need to Wear Something

I do sometimes complain about the lack of real individuality in crowd funded watch projects, so when something unique comes across our Tips line, I want to cover it, even if it not something I could see myself wearing. The Thirsty Watch Co. Vintage Soda watch on Indiegogo is exactly that type of project. It is unique, it will probably appeal to a fair number of people, but it just isn’t for me. But that does not mean it is without merits.

We cover them here from time to time because they are design driven watch company that puts out products you are not going to find on your cubicle neighbor’s wrist (probably). Mr Jones Watches Company is a small, self described cult watch brand out of London. They make interesting looking and affordable watches that are definitely outside the norm. Patrick has tended to cover the brand in the past, but I am going to look at the Mr Jones Watches The Green Man, a definite departure from the norm.
