If you stop and think about it, watches really are an accessory. Yes, they are extremely useful accessories, but they are add-ons to what we wear, are they not? If we pull on that thread of reasoning, then, the topic of watches, and what watch you wear, is really an extension of what might be called Men’s Fashion, or Men’s Style. To that end, we here at WWR thought it would make sense to start taking a look at items from the world of Men’s style, hopefully in scenarios where it’s somehow related to the watch world. In this case, we had a perfect stop-off point for our first foray – Filson. They have been making watches with Shinola, which are largely an extension of the great product catalog they have built up. That means that, for our inaugural Men’s Style post, we will take a look at the Filson Short Cruiser.

As we spoke about in our initial hands-on review of the Filson Journeyman GMT, I view the Filson line of watches as a way for Shinola to sort of play around with their designs a bit, and take things in slightly different directions. While I would not go so far as to say that the Filson Dutch Harbor is breaking new ground, it is definitely a rather comely implementation of a dive watch.

As always, thank you for taking the time to join us for our weekly feature, Watching the Web, where we point you to interesting posts we find on other sites, as well as highlight our own popular articles. The week, from across the web, I have reviews of Nomos and Ressence watches, and a short round up of independent watchmakers. From our own site, seeing how this is the penultimate weekend of the year, I would highlight our most popular posts for the last 12 months.

Welcome back (or just welcome if this is your first time here) to our weekly installment, Watching the Web, where we point out interesting watches and articles that have popped up over the last week (or so), and we take a second look at our more popular posts over the same span. Today, I am going to highlight the Urwerk UR-105 TA from A Blog to Watch, Hodinkee’s look at the NOMOS Lambda, and a Kickstarter campaign for hand made watch boxes. From our site, we have an exclusive review of the Filson Journeyman GMT, a look at the Swatch Sistem 51 update, and for the 3rd week in a row, the Ventus Caspian on Kickstarter.

We first brought you word of the new Filson (by Shinola) watches in February. While they are, at their heart, Shinola watches, they have a different look and feel to them that switching to the Filson name allows (sort of how auto manufacturers go for different styles on the same basic platform across brands). My preferences being what they are, I found myself drawn to the GMT models being released, along with their tincloth straps. To the best of my knowledge, we are the first site able to bring you a hands-on review of the Filson Journeyman GMT
