Over the summer, we talked to you about a rather interesting new outdoors watch from Casio PRO TREK, the PRJB series (seen here). We thought it had some clever features to it, and now there’s a new version of it. Casio collaborated with White Mountaineering to create a more fashion-oriented version, known as the Casio PRO TREK PRJB001WM.
Casio PRO TREK PRJB001WM: what’s different?
At it’s core, the watch is the same. All the same tech (solar, bluetooth, and so on) is there, as is the clever bezel that can be used to prevent accidental button pushes. The first major change is that the case (still a bio-resin) is done in black, as is the dial. Over that, you’ve got mostly grey accents, with the bright white saved just for the tips of the handset. In other words, it’s been stealthed out.
They’ve also done away with the bungee-cord strap, and instead gone with a more traditional textile (also in a darker hue). This strap, however, is fire-resistant, keeping those outdoor roots in place. Finally, we’ve got a custom caseback acknowledging the collab.
Wrapping things up
For myself, I prefer the original to this latest Casio PRO TREK PRJB001WM, but that’s more because I prefer legibility on a dial, and this darkened-out approach tends to limit that. Still, it’s a watch that has a good bit of functionality to it, and should get the job done if you need to take things in a less outdoorsy direction.
