What we like about the Casio PRO TREK lineup is just how unabashedly outdoors-oriented it is. While many of their designs look like watches that could pass reasonably well in civilian life, the new Casio PRO TREK PRJB001B-2 has a strap design that is only going to look out of place anywhere that isn’t the woods.

Casio PRO TREK PRJB001B-2: the strap

Coming off of the lower lugs, the strap of the Casio PRO TREK PRJB001B-2 looks like your standard textile strap. But what is that orange bungee cord? That’s actually the other part of the strap, coming off of the upper lugs. Why do this?

For one, it should make for a particularly breathable strap, since less of your wrist is covered. This also means that you can quickly go from having the watch on your wrist, to then wrapping it around the sleeve of whatever bulky outwear sleeve you happen to have on.

The bezel / button guard

The bezel of the Casio PRO TREK PRJB001B-2 is another rather unique feature of the watch. For one, it’s squared, which is not a common shape. Secondly, even though it’s an outdoors-oriented watch, it doesn’t have a compass or timer printed onto it.

Instead, the bezel of the watch is actually intended as a guard for the buttons on the watch. When it’s in a squared alignment, all of the buttons are covered, making it much less likely that they’ll be accidentally press.

Rotate the bezel 90 degrees (so it’s in a diamond alignment) and all of the buttons are exposed for you to work with. With watches, we are rather used to guards on crowns, while button guards are much more of a rarity. If you’re being particularly active outdoors, you’ll no doubt enjoy the extra protection.
