Yesterday, we talked to you about a solar-powered watch, albeit one without any external time-syncing to keep it accurate. Well, if you want something that can talk to your phone (to keep it on time, not for full-on smartwatch stuff) while also sipping power from photons, today’s watch is the one for you. Especially if you’re a fan of seeing stuff with wheels zip around racetracks. That’s because the Casio Edifice Sospensione HRC was designed in collaboration with Honda Racing.

Casio Edifice Sospensione HRC: what it is

Back in 2022, we brought you word of the Casio Edifice Sospensione, and the version we’ve been spending some time with has had some further input from Honda Racing on the overall look. The basic styling is the same, with a lug configuration to remind you of the suspension on a race car, and the case and bezel itself made of carbon fiber (the caseback is stainless steel). Functionality remains unchanged as well (see the details below for the full list of capabilities).

What’s different about this version

The most noticeable difference with the Casio Edifice Sospensione HRC is the overall color scheme. While the base watch is primarily grey tones, this version dresses things up with a red, white, and blue color scheme. You see this first in the paint colors on the bezel, which then spill into the dial. Additionally, the same scheme is there in the new HRC logo at 12 o’clock and on the lower strap.

The strap itself is Alcantara, with blue on the exterior and red interior; double stitching in red and blue completes the scheme. The strap has a unique secondary keeper, in that it’s metal. On this keeper, you see what the colors are there to represent:

  • Red: passion for victory
  • White: for all motorsports fans
  • Blue: advanced technology

Wearing the watch

Really, for me, the story with the Casio Edifice Sospensione HRC is just how much technology is packed into this relatively small package. Again, that full list is down below, but the fact that I can have world time tracking, as well as timing whatever event I want, and have it talk to my phone? That’s not nothing. Add in the always-welcome-on-a-quartz-watch solar power functionality, and there’s just a lot to like here.

Of course, there’s all those motorsports ties as well. While I rode motorcycles, I never got into the racing scene (or watching motorcycle racing). On the other hand, my engineer dad always had racing of some sort on TV when I was growing up, so I could see this being the sort of watch that would quite happily land on his wrist.

Despite being a larger watch, it is very light and comfortable on the wrist. The carbon fiber and quartz movement help the lightness, and the articulating piece coming from the lugs lets the strap move down to your wrist. Oh, and yeah, that Alcantara is quite lovely as well. Softer than suede, and without the scratches and scuffs that suede can pick up, it should keep things looking fresh for a long time.

Wrapping things up

While there are other versions of the ECB200 that run around $300 (and less at the moment, due to some discounts), the Casio Edifice Sospensione HRC comes in at $400. Obviously, for that price, you’re getting a lot of HRC-specific branding and touches on the watch, including the red, white, and blue color scheme. Past that, you of course have the always-appreciated solar technology, and the additional connectivity to your phone. Wrap it all up with the Alcantara strap, and you’ve got a watch that’s ready to make racing fans happy. Check it out, and order yours, directly at casio.com
