After looking at yesterday’s Android-powered watch, I couldn’t help but to dig back into the Android (watch company, not OS) catalog to see what else grabbed my eye. And, will you look at that, yet another open-heart (or skeleton, if you prefer) watch bubbled up to the top. Let’s have a look, and see if the Redline Open Heart Automatic might just be a watch for you.
To start with, if you’re thinking about this watch, you better make sure that you like ’em big, because this case comes in at 46mm. Of course, at that size, you get a nice splash of blue (purple?) up front, even with the cutouts that allow you to see the movement working away.
And that particular movement? It’s a Miyota 8S20, which is a 21-jewel automatic. It’s controlled by a push/pull crown (no screw-down), which limits the water resistance to 100 meters. Of course, with a watch like this, you’re not likely to jump into the pool wearing it. If you’re pushed in, though, it should still keep ticking.
There is one bit of styling on this that bugs me, though – the sawtooth bezel. There’s no mention as to whether it’s fixed or not, but regardless, there’s no markings on it, so it’s not like you could use it to time. I would have much preferred to see something sleeker wrapped around the mineral crystal.
That aside, at an MSRP of $250, you can forgive a minor thing like the bezel. For that price, you’re getting a watch that should stand up well in day-to-day life, and, as an added bonus, allows you to observe the modern marvel ticking away on your wrist.
