A Wooden Watch With A Twist

Well, not a literal twist, but it’s an interesting changeup, all the same. We’ve featured wooden watches on these pages before, and they often times just have the material taking the place of metal. So, you’ve got a wooden case, a multi-link bracelet made of wood, so on and so forth.

With this latest Kickstarter project from the Analog Watch Co, they’re doing something I’ve not seen before – they’ve actually created a very thin, and flexible, wooden watch strap. Yes, that’s right – rather than a block replica of your favorite metal bracelet, you’ve got a thin, flexible veneer (with a leather backing) that you’re strapping around your wrist. It remains to be seen how comfortable and durable this is, exactly, but it does make for an interesting look.

The watch itself carries some fairly basic dimensions – 42mm case (just under 12mm tall) and 20mm strap, so this won’t look that out of place among other watches. As you might expect (being as it’s on Kickstarter) the watch is powered by a quartz movement. This greatly simplifies things, as well as helps to keep costs down.

While retail for these watches is anticipated to be around the $140 mark, you can (as of the time of this writing) get in on the project at the $85 mark. As they’re fully funded (over-funded, actually) at this time, the watch will definitely be forthcoming, which is a comfort for many taking a chance with an upstart brand. Funding closes on November 10th. with delivery anticipated to occur by February.

While we’ve seen plenty of wooden watches in the past, I do rather like that they’ve used the straps to differentiate themselves. Perhaps if this takes off, we may even be able to purchased stand-alone wooden straps to figure out what watches to pair to. kickstarter.com
