01 733 7730 4175-Set - Oris Lake Baikal Limited Edition

Well, no, not all of the lakes – but one in particular – Lake Baikal. What’s Lake Baikal? Well, for starters, it’s the largest fresh water lake in the world, holding approximately 20% of the fresh lake water in the world. To help fund research occurring there, there’s a new limited-edition Oris Aquis on offer.

So, why is Oris launching this watch? I’ll let them tell you that themselves:

‘Water is the source of life,’ says Rolf Studer, Oris Co-CEO. ‘We believe passionately in conserving it for future generations, and also in acting responsibly as citizens of the world to bring positive change. Every year we seek out pioneering organisations who share these values and work to protect the world’s water.

Obviously, this large a body of water has research occurring around and on it, but it’s something that funding is never quite guaranteed. With this new watch release, however, they’re confident that they’ve got the funding covered for the remainder of 2020.

In terms of the watch itself, it does indeed look like a fairly standard Aquis three-hander, but it does have one rather interesting caseback insert commemorating the project it’s helping to support. This Lake Baikal edition of the Oris Aquis is limited to 1,999 pieces, each one coming in at $2,400 (about a $300 premium over the non-LE version). oris.ch
