Hands-on (or hand-on?) with on the Dwiss RC1 – and help them design the next one

This is my second review for Dwiss. I previously reviewed the Dwiss RS1-BL back in November of 2018. At that time they also had the RC1 model, which I was also interested in. Dwiss just came out with a new variation of the RC1 with a black dial. I was able to get a hold of one, and so far so good. Check out this new watch, and at the end of this review I will tell you how you can help Dwiss come up with their next model by joining the Club.

The Dial

Dwiss really did a great job with this dial. With a raised outer dial and a smaller lower dial this watch is visually stunning to me. There is no hour hand on this watch. You can see the current hour through a large window loacted across the 11, 12, and 1 o’clock postions. Hours are displayed in roman numerals, kinda classy. The only thing that kind of looks like a hand is the minute hand which is more like an minute pointer. Instead of hands, this watch uses discs. The seconds disc does not point at anything, it just rotates around and looks cool. The minute hand/pointer rotates inside the smaller dial and points the minute markers on the outer dial. There is a date window at the 6 o’clock position located in the smaller dial. Crazy cool look, to me.

The Case

Made from 316L stainless, the case measures in at 45mm wide and 13mm thick. This is not a small watch but it wears very well. DWISS uses a 7-part multi layer modular design which creates a very interesting look. Dwiss uses a mix polished and brushed finishes which gives it both a formal, and casual look. The main part of the case which houses the movement slides into a frame which is connected to the lugs. They are bolted together using 4 screws which you can see on the bezel and on the case back. Sapphire crystal is used to protect the dial and also is used for the exhibition case back. The screw down crown with the DWISS logo is surrounded with a hard rubber grip wich looks great.

The Movement

DWISS uses a ETA 2824-2 Elabore movement in their RC1 models. The movement itself is fairly simple-looking with the exception of the customer rotor. Always love seeing a nice movement through the case back.

The Strap

The strap on this new DWISS RC1 SB combines is made from. Each model uses accent stitching to compliment the color on the dial. Since this is a black dial the accent stitching matches the maker color. The strap seems kind of stiff at first, but softens up quickly. I have worn this watch for a week now and have had to comfort issues at all.

If you want a cool and very unique watch you can’t go wrong with any of the Dwiss models. Finishes and build quality are great and you can’t go wrong with an ETA movement. Not a bad deal for $1390 USD. If you are interested go check them out at dwiss.com.

Ok so now for this club thing I mentioned. Starting on October 1st Dwiss will start a 200 member watch club. These 200 members will take part in all levels of the design. Whats cool is that the dues for the club, pays for the watch. Basically the price of this new watch is divided into 12 monthly payments of $79 USD. So, what if you don’t like the final product? If you are not happy with the new design, you can use the money you paid towards any of their other models. Now if you like the new watch you will be getting a good deal. Members get this new model for $948 USD, but non members will have to pay the retail price of $1390 USD. If you want to get in on this, go check out the club at dwiss.com.
