What’s the difference between a £250 watch and a £250,000 one?

The folks at WatchFinder have been putting out some pretty interesting videos of late and their latest, a comparison of a Seiko Presage SRPA25K1 and a Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Tourbillon is a doozy. Basically it compares two watches that ostensibly have everything in common – they both have three hands and look almost the same – but are implicitly different.

The question of whether to spend $300 or $300,000 on a watch is purely theoretical for most of us but it’s an interesting trick to compare two completely manufacture watches what have such divergent prices. If you want to think about it you can imagine the Seiko is a bottle of Two-Buck Chuck – a good wine that you can drink with pride – and a bottle of a rare 2003 G.B. Burlotto Barolo Monvigliero. Both are approximately the same thing and they both get the job done but there are some implicit differences that connoisseurs and alcoholics alike can appreciate.

Anyway, please don’t spend $300,000 on a watch.
