The Meistersinger Lunascope is out of this world

The Meistersinger Lunascope. A single-hander automatic luxury watch with what’s probably the largest, nicest moonphase display I’ve seen. Quite simply, fit, finish, and style is out of this world.

The natural impression of the moon reflects the astronomical precision with which the Lunascope displays the moon’s phases. The moon takes 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes, and 2.9 seconds to circumnavigate the Earth. Most watches round this figure down to 29.5 days via the movement, which means they deviate by eight hours per year and need adjusting by one complete day every third year. However, the movement of the Lunascope works with far greater precision. Its moon phase indicator only needs a minor adjustment after 128 years – a tiny step in astronomical terms, but a giant leap in the world of watchmaking.

First Impressions

Out of all the great first impressions of the Lunascope, naturally the first thing to remark on is the moon phase display. It’s big, bolt, and with such exqquisit detail. Stars are crisp and sharp, and the texture of the moon is so nice. Additionally, the overall fit and finish of the piece is excellent and well detailed. To finish off the package, the deployment clasp on the stiff leather band is shiny and solid. The Lunascope truly looks, feels, and acts like the luxury piece that it is.

On the Wrist

On the wrist, I can’t keep from feeling classy and refined, even if wearing it with a tshirt. Wearing the Lunascope to a formal event seems natural, and the moonphase display is an instant conversation starter. Additionally, that single-hand, “relaxed” take on timekeeping is perfect for events and parties when exact timing doesn’t matter anyway. Additionally, the date display, borrowed from the Circularis, is nice and crisp – and makes sure I arrive at the party on the correct day!

Feature Review

  • Time – The single hand (an hour hand) is long and precise, allowing for easy reading of the minutes between each hour. For an automatic watch, the Lunascope keeps excellent time
  • Moon Phase – Huge moonphase display. Perfect depiction of the moon, and twinkly stars – love it.
  • Date – The Circularis date window is tiny and effective – and doesn’t interfere with the overall look.

Should You Buy It?

Looking for an interesting, quirky, classy moonphase to start conversations with at your next black tie affair? This is the one for you!

Final Thoughts

The Meistersinger Lunascope is an inspired moonphase with classic roots and new twists. It stands out at every gathering, and compliments a suit nicely.

  • Brand & Model: Meistersinger Lunascope
  • Price: USD $4000
  • Who we think it might be for: Classy purists looking for an interesting conversation piece to wear to formal events.
  • If I could make one design suggestion, it would be: What are the constellations in the moon phase display? What about showing the dark side of the moon on the dark blue dial colorway? Just small things that might add some fun interest.
  • What spoke to me the most about this watch: The moonphase!
