Rocketbody, flying into the wearable fitness tracker market

We are plenty used to seeing quartz and mechanical watches hitting the pages of Kickstarter these days.  Smartwatches are much less frequent, and for there to be one that is primarily a fitness tracker, well, that’s a relative rarity.  So, I was surprised to see the news of the RocketBody AI hitting.

Now, when it comes to a fitness tracker, the RocketBody is a familiar thing.  It tracks your movement, will track your sleep, and will try to put together a full picture of your fitness and wellbeing.  Where things different is how it’s measuring things.  Rather than relying on heart rate, it’s going in a slightly different direction by measuring things via EKG, along with heart rate and heart rate variability.  At least on paper, it seems like it presents a better picture of what’s going on.

Along with that measurement, it’s looking to work with the goals you set in the companion app to help tailor your workouts (say, for losing weight or building muscle).  It’s an interesting approach, and we’ve been talking with the brand about getting a review unit in.    In the meantime, you can check out all the details on their Kickstarter page.  The project wraps up on May 31st, and has already exceeded their funding target.  As of this writing, there are still a few super-early bird pricing tier of $99 units available; after that, it hops up to $119.  If nothing else, it’s an intriguing option for a fitness tracker, and it gives some competition to the “big brands” out there on the market.  If we can get a review unit in, we’ll be sure to give you our thoughts.  kickstarter.com
