DOXA has emerged from its archives with yet another classic disco-era dive watch design—this time a limited edition remake of the rare yellow-dialed “Divingstar” SUB 300T. DOXA has been making serious dive watches since the 1960s, with a 20-year hiatus caused by the quartz crisis. The modern DOXA restarted in 2002 and immediately returned to the company’s roots, with its trademark turtle-shaped cases and orange dials rebooted for a new generation of divers to enjoy.

While DOXA is best known for its trio of SUB 300T dive watches with iconic orange (“Professional”), black (“Sharkhunter”) and silver (“Searambler”) dials, there was also a short-lived version with a bright yellow dial, known as the “Divingstar.” Rarer still was a version branded with the logo of Swedish dive equipment company Poseidon on the yellow dial.

But that Poseidon logo and yellow dial combo just got a little less rare with the introduction of the new DOXA SUB 300T Divingstar “Poseidon Edition.” The limited edition reissue is an updated version of its 1970s ancestor, with modern features we’ve come to expect on a high-end dive watch: sapphire crystal; Swiss ETA 2824-2 movement;  Super-LumiNova on the dial markings and hands. The water resistance also gets an upgrade, to a ridiculously robust 1,200 meters—four times the depth rating of the original SUB 300T. The steel bracelet is a period-correct “beads of rice” style, with solid end links and a fold-over clasp with diver’s extension.

DOXA claims the first commercially available helium escape valve (the Sub300t Conquistador in 1969) and the DOXA SUB 300T Divingstar “Poseidon Edition” carries on that technical tradition. Although most of these watches won’t go deeper than the swimming pool, for a watch with such a deep depth rating trapped helium inside the watch can become a real concern; the valve releases the helium so pressure doesn’t build inside the case and pop the crystal off as a diver ascends.

The DOXA SUB 300T Divingstar “Poseidon Edition” is available today and only 300 will be made—at least not until the next reissue forty years from now. doxawatches.com
