The Mido Commander is an iconic piece of watchmaking. Akin to the Tissot Le Locle in price, size, and quality, you rarely go wrong with a nice Commander. Now the company is making a new model with a big date at 6 o’clock, a welcome departure from the line’s simple three-handed design. It is called, quite simply, the Mido Commander Big Date.
The big date complication is just as it sounds: it’s a big date window with dual wheels that shows the date in two digits. It’s historically been a nice ad-on to pilot’s and other bigger watches and it looks great on the Commander.
It has an 80 hour power reserve with a beautiful Caliber 80 movement. It comes in multiple case and dial styles. From the release:
To open the celebration of its 100 anniversary, Mido is launching the Commander Big Date: a series of innovative models presenting a large date aperture at 6 o’clock. For these models, Mido has developed an exclusive movement with a large date aperture based on its Caliber 80. Offering unrivalled date legibility, this new line adopts the codes that have given the Commander its legendary status: a sunray satin-finished dial that is extremely pure, protected by an elegant round case in satin-finished stainless steel and enhanced by a polished bezel.
The Commander Big Date will cost between 960 and 1090 Euro and is available now.
