Welcome back to our weekly installment, Watching the Web, where we have a quick look at some interesting watches and articles that have popped up over the last week (or so), as well as taking a second look at what some of our more popular articles this week were. Today, we’ve got the Apple Watch (yes, again), and a tourbillon that is not showcased on the dial side. After those, we’ll highlight (as usual) some of our more popular posts from the last week. Read on to see what we’ve got in store for you.Apple-Watch-92

Arguably, the Apple Watch has the potential to be a major game changer.  Will it supplant your classic mechanical watch?  Likely not.  It does, however, have the possibility to get a whole new group of people interested in watches.  Not to mention scratching that itch some of us get for checking out new gadgets.  Over at ABTW, Ariel headed over to Cupertino to get some quality time with the new watch; you can check that out here.

For the the purists in the crowd, it seems that Panerai has releases a handful of new watches over in Hong Kong, and the team at Hodinkee is covering them.  The most intriguing of the batch to me is the new tourbillon.  For starters, you can’t see it on the dial side.  When you do see if through the caseback, you’ll notice that it’s cage rotates perpendicular to the balance, rather than around the axis.  It’s an interesting implementation; you can see the writeup here.

Now, lets turn our attention back to our own pages.  First up, we’ve got a watch that was popular the first time around, so it’s no surprise that the latest iteration is a fan favorite – the Anstead Oceanis. Matt was in a unique position for this writeup, as he’s got the original he could compare against in his hands on review.  If you’ve been curious about the watch, it’s a good writeup to check out.

Next up, we had an article I was surprise to see resurface – our hands-on review of the Swatch Sistem51.  Sure, the review is only three months old, but it seems interest around the watch (at least in the writing I follow) has definitely died down.  That isn’t to say it’s still not a fun watch, as it is.  If you’re not familiar with what the Sistem51 has to offer, I recommend you check out our writeup.

And last, but not least, a question: do you have your entries in for our current giveaway? It’s October, so that means we’ve got a brand new contest going on. Head on over here to get your entries in.

With that, we’ll wrap things up. As always, if there’s something you think we should be covering, feel free to drop us a line. If you bring something up that we end up writing about, we’ll be sure to tip our hats (electronically, if not literally) in your general direction.
