It’s been a bit since we’ve brought up a Timex model, so when this one caught my eye, I knew it was destined for a post.  Of course, if you’ve been reading WWR for some time now, you’re aware that Timex offers quite a few nicely styled watches that are extremely affordable.
Today’s model, the T498759J, doesn’t stray far from that precedent.  With this watch, you have a 42mm stainless steel case (only 11mm thick) with a mineral crystal, solid caseback, date display, and 100 meter water resistance rating.
On the surface of it, fairly plain-jane specs, no? Â Of course, the addition of the Indiglo backlight raises the interest some. Â For me, this watch is worth a mention solely because of it’s styling. Â First, you’ve got the grey dial on an olive green strap. Â It’s a subtle combination you don’t see much – and it looks sharp.
Second, you’ve got the skeletonized aviator hands.  It’s a nice changeup from the solid aviator hands you might see (think B&R), yet they’re sized to it looks like readability won’t be an issue.  Finally, you’ve got the numerals on the dial.  You don’t see that many watches that opt for a minute scale  on the dial.  It’s not going to have a great impact on how you tell time, but it does mix things up a bit.
Even at the MSRP of $65, this is a compelling watch.  When you consider you can get it for around $45 from Amazon, it’s just about a no-brainer if you’re looking to pickup an Aviator-style watch on the cheap.  And, if you prefer yours in brown (as shown above), that’s only $43.
