Timex Spins The Military Roulette Wheel

At least, a roulette wheel is what comes to my mind when I look at this watch.  Of course, there’s no mention of gambling in it’s official name, the Military Classic.  It has a distinct aviator-inspired feel, and looks to offer the great combination of style, reliability and affordability that Timex has been offering as of late.

This watch is part of their Expedition line, and offers up a simple three-hander style (though, the hour and minute hands seem to be a tad on the short side) with date display (yes!  black background!).

The stainless steel case is a large 45mm, so that may explain the smaller hands (smaller movement from elsewhere shoved in a large case).  That movement is quartz, and when wrapped up in the case, it should offer 100m of water resistance; you also have the standard Indiglo backlight.

The dial is where the appeal of this watch comes in, for me.  Of course, you have that roulette-wheel styling (other colors are more subdued, but it’s still there); I also am intrigued by the three different scales you have stacked on the dial – minutes, 12-hour, and 24-hour scales.  Sure, it’s not math that you can’t do in your head quite easily, but it does add another design cue on what could otherwise be a bland part of the dial.

So, if you wanted to put this watch (with it’s cordura strap) on your wrist, how much would you expect to pay?  MSRP is listed right at $100, but I was able to find it closer to $75 with a quick bit of searching.  I look at this as being a good step up should you want a simple quartz watch, but feel that, say, the Weekender, is a bit to plain (or small) for your tastes.
