From what we’ve been seeing so far, we’ve quickly become fans of what Nomadic is producing. We do have a hands-on of their Marai 401 in the works (the non-gold version), and recently they introduced a new dial color to another great line. Time to meet the Nomadic Turas 914 Landfall.

Nomadic Turas 914 Landfall: the aesthetics

Looking at the watch, this definitely feels like a classic three-handed steel sport watch. For us, that puts in mind of the Explorer, and that’s fitting for this model. You see, the 914? That’s for 1914, the year that Shackleton and the Endurance set out. Of course, as we’ve seen from Nomadic, they do things a little differently.

First off, there’s the font. They use vaguely-digital looking fonts, and that carries forth on the numerals for the applied indices, and of course the logo on the dial. Over that, they’ve gone not with standard stick hands, but instead have opted for Flieger-style. For the latest version, they’ve gone with a deep green dial, which rather sets off the white indices and hands.

The hardware

The Nomadic Turas 914 Landfall comes in a 39mm stainless steel case that manages to keep it thin at 11mm tall. You’ve got a sapphire crystal up front, and an exhibition caseback around back. There, you’ll see a small lifeboat engraved, a tribute to the trials the Endurance crew went through. You’ll also see bits and pieces of the trusty Sellita SW200-1 movement.
